See how we bounced!!

The children had great fun bouncing around the Nursery raising money during
our bounce-a-thon for the 'Happy Days' children's charity, who help children
with special needs and life limiting conditions.

'How does your garden grow ?'

In today's world caring for the environment encompasses many aspects.  One
of which is caring for the environment immediately around us - our gardens,
homes and open spaces near to where we live.

Soon the children in Pre-school will taking part in activities linked in
with various aspects of environmental education.  Through environmental
education we can use what is nearer and more familiar to us to promote an
early understanding of the care we need to give to living things and our
planet.
All of the activities are part of a scheme entitled 'How does your garden
grow ?'.  The first part is based on awareness of the world around us and
the second part will be about growth.  They will run alongside the general
topic activities in Pre-school and many will take place in the Nursery
garden.
The whole process of caring for a garden can help the early understanding of
caring for the world, through learning about the plants and animals present,
also the seasons, life cycles, growth, habitats and the weather.
The activities are planned with links to the Stepping Stones  in the
Foundation Stage Pre-school Curriculum.

'Pre-school children go into outer space !'

The children at City Nursery have made their own papier mache planets and
have been learning about the solar system.
Perhaps they will be astronauts of the future !

'Have you wondered what sensory play is ?'

One aspect of sensory play is giving the children the opportunity to explore
a variety of materials and textures.  Other sensory experiences include
'sound' bottles.  These can also be made easily at home by filling small
plastic bottles with a variety of different objects, such as pasta, buttons
and rice.  It is important to ensure that the lids of the bottles are glued
on after filling them.
All ages in the Nursery enjoy taking part in this area of play, as the
Tweenies are below.

A huge thank you to all parents who donated Sainsbury's and Tesco's vouchers for the nursery.

SAINSBURYS
The total number of  vouchers reached was in excess of 14,000 and we received a whole range of exciting equipment including different types of sensory balls, pom poms, gymnastic and sports equipment.

TESCO
Our Tesco vouchers amounted to 8000 and we have been able to select a range of computer accessories, metal detectors which will arrive shortly.

Max, Tom, Katie, Jessica, Lily, Alex and Levi couldn't wait to show us what they could do with the balls and hoops.
