New Decking Area
The children had a grand opening ceremony
for their new decking area and had
great fun unwrapping new equipment to use on there.
This area will mean
that the children will have an adpatable space that can also
be used as an
'outdoor classroom', providing lots of learning
opportunities.

a healthy and nutritious breakfast at our
'Breakfast Club'.
'How does your garden grow ?'
In today's world caring for the environment encompasses many
aspects. One
of which is caring for the environment immediately around us
- our gardens,
homes and open spaces near to where we live.
Soon the children in Pre-school will taking part in
activities linked in
with various aspects of environmental education.
Through environmental
education we can use what is nearer and more familiar to us
to promote an
early understanding of the care we need to give to living
things and our
planet.
All of the activities are part of a scheme entitled 'How
does your garden
grow ?'. The first part is based on awareness of the
world around us and
the second part will be about growth. They will run
alongside the general
topic activities in Pre-school and many will take place in
the Nursery
garden.
The whole process of caring for a garden can help the early
understanding of
caring for the world, through learning about the plants and
animals present,
also the seasons, life cycles, growth, habitats and the
weather.
The activities are planned with links to the Stepping Stones
in the
Foundation Stage Pre-school Curriculum.

'Going shopping'
Pre-school
have been using their role play area as a shop. This
play
opportunity gives the children the chance to be indpendant
in their thinking
and creativity, and be able to incorporate familiar
situations, such as
shopping into their play.
As well as this it provides a good foundation for increasing
mathematical
and language and literacy skills.
Fun with Paint !
Paint and similar mediums are used for a wide range
of activities across all
of the age groups in the Nursery.
The Older Babies have recently been hand and foot
printing
This is what they had to say......
'We made lots of hand and foot prints
and then added lips and eyes to make
them look like fish. The paint felt funny between
our fingers and toes, and
especially made our feet all tickly!
Our fish then decorated the Older Baby Island in our
playroom'.
Pre-school have been exploring their senses, particularly
sight. The
children experimented with mixing paints together
to see what colours they
could create. They talked further about light and
dark colours and
different shades.
